rome, italy native fabio bacchini has been holding it down for underground house music with his label mind travel, but takes a step to the left to give us a hot little ep on transport. the roman disco ep is exactly what it says on the box: no fancy gimmicks here, this release is comprised of four solid disco house jams. the first tune >weekender< is a nice phase guitar loop jam with signature disco pulsating strings amidst the happy snapping snare beats and soul train vocal snips. next is my favorite cut, >money talks<, a straight up disco rhodes organ jam a la the crusaders. add some saxophone in there for points with ladies, and you have yourself a jam. on the flip we have >in the mood< is takes the mood a bit deeper with a nice n spacey groove amidst a rhythm heavy beat. throw some synth strings and keys riffs in there for good measure and there you have it... disco house. sometimes stays within the same formula but brings a more pulsating sound that pushes the music. the tune is still deep and groovy as the ep winds down...

produced in 2004, this ep marks an essential shift in the production of stefan goldmann to his modus operandi as a dedicated innovator. he had adapted the barricade guise to induce some serious deviations into the techno realm. yet, heads werent ready and he simply continued under his real name with his major breakthrough works: perlons blood ep and the legendary sleepy hollow tune. hidden from the public, aleko and frantic had built a prototypic aesthetic of rough, concrete-space sounds - reduced dark, metallic percussion grooves, spring reverbs and degraded post-acidic synths. you name it where you heard this sound years later. its revealing how far ahead these tunes were at the time of their creation. they sound more now than many current tracks. aleko is the 4/4 techno version of this soundset, locked-in clonk patterns built around a nitrous bassline. frantic could be a future development to todays dubstep, if it wasnt its actual historic predecessor. add the schizophrenic bass excursion heliotrope and you have a package of painstaking relevance. back then the a&rs simply didnt get it - thats why it took 6 years and the formation of victoriaville to finally bring these gems to light

the trio of moritz von oswald, max loderbauer (nsi / sun electric) and sasu ripatti (vladislav delay / luomo), with a third album, this time enriched and expanded by guitar contributions from paul st hilaire (also known as tikiman), and double bass courtesy of marc muellbauer (via ecm). horizontal structures is palpably a more open, more expressive album than the previous studio recording, vertical ascent. there is more contrast, more light and shade. st hilaire and muellbauer add fresh drama and swing to the intimate tonal and rhythmic interactions of the core grouping. the coherence of the five-piece is remarkable, the boundary between acoustic and electronic undone.

a few times a year, a label releases a single that rocks the industry and the upcoming release from hidden recordings does just that. gregory shiff, who has also released off of such high caliber labels as stewart walkers persona label in berlin, produced the original and the label enlisted techno luminaries adultnapper, tony rohr and pheek, along with deepak sharma and dieter krause to add remixes to put together a five track monster that will, and should be in the crates of djs around the world for the rest of this year and beyond. the best part about the release? the remixers brought their a-game and put forth effort that has helped make them some of technos most revered producers and artists. simply put, all five tracks rock and will pound the dancefloor

green could not have found a finer match. the melodic genius of ripperton is wonderfully sculpted by the uk producer, who delivers not one, but two remixes. part 1 sees radio slave taking leonor s lanugo on a deep, hypnotic workout. its warm, all encompassing bassline works brilliantly with its tribal drum line to deliver a deadly take on the original. on part 2 radio slave takes a housier direction. rock solid beats are interwoven with the original s beautiful string melody as bird calls and wild cats prowling add to the incredible suspense to create an inspiring remix.

back again we have the mediterranean flavor of the friends affkt and alberto sola. always experimenting with different ingredients like the cooker ferran adria, the guys who laid the first stone of the legendary label barraca, now present a hybrid of pop and house which will leave no one indifferent. ‘pobla loves you’ was born with the tuba of alberto cuartero, orchestra director of hoya gonzalo in albacete. marc and alberto (affkt and sola) wanted to have a typical instrument of a band and merged it with the electronic dance scene, always being faithful to his maxim of making music to dance as well as to listen. if we surround valencia, road to pobla de farnals, we passed through la canada. there are los updates, who upon hearing the organic rhythm of pobla and the work with the wind instruments, set to work with the voices. perfectly adapted to the capital of the turia river, jorge and loreto propose a valencian poem that their children have learned at school. the moon of valencia then join our dinner for four. finally, we add to our paella a bit of percussion and keyboards made in affkt, to get a main course and obtain a typical valencian plate but by adding a little chilean salt becomes international. more oriented to the dance floor, there are three rather different remixes. new union between spain and chile, with danny fiddo and felipe venegas. this couple present an elegant and deep remix with drums and vocals perfectly adapted to the current sound. moreover, the french man darlyn vlys re-interpreted >pobla loves you< with a lot of groove and percussion added. finally, affkt gives his funker version of events to complete a job that will come out by the german label international freakshow

gavin herlihy is back on cadenza, and he comes bearing what can only be seen as an instant anthem. remember those foam toys, the ones where you just had to add water, and theyd swell into wonderful, unexpected shapes? back burner is a lot like that, but no water needed: just a needle in the groove, or a laser across the aluminum, is enough to send this sucker ballooning to enormous proportions.

karizma returns with a heavy remix package featuring versions by osunlade, atjazz, deep order and karizma himself. yoruba soul legend osunlade has transformed good morning (featuring vocal diva monique bingham) into a deliciously jazzy soul extravaganza. like diving into a melted chocolate swimming pool… next up, karizma takes his own track and gives it his distinctive club floor treatment turning this soulful song into a dancefloor beast as only he know how. then flip to the b-side for a truly astonishing tech house remix of groove a k ordingly from the one and only atjazz, causing absolute dancefloor mayhem. add to that a dub from the mysterious deep order, (from the atjazz lable) who turns in an electronic tech dub to rock the spot

just like a photographer who captures certain moments on film, marcus crowley and chris robin always seem to add that right kind of light to their tracks, make them feel like sweat and smoke and dirt or maybe, just a glimpse of wednesday afternoon. strich acht returns 2010 with a new fresh release. >senora fips< is a very minimalistic and dirty pumpin track with lazy female vocals that create a trippy feeling. leghaus remix on the flip is truly more pure & raw techno music straight to the dancefloor.
